Introductory Letter

My name is Cameron Mohan, and I’m in my third year of the Middle Years Ed program at University of Regina. I’m just starting my Pre-internship at Palliser Heights School. This will be my first time formally teaching, and I’m very excited about the learning opportunities that will come with working with an experienced Co-op Teacher and class!
Here is a bit about me. I have a good deal of experience working with middle years students both in and out of the classroom. I’ve spent every summer for the past 10 years working at various camps, including the last five summers as the Program Director at Lakeshore Camp in Manitoba, and Katepwa Lake Camp (near Fort Qu’Appelle). Also, I spent four years working part time as the Youth Director at a church in Winnipeg where I organized and lead a youth group/drop in for community youth of various ages. I’ve also worked as full-time Educational Assistant from May 2011 – June 2012 in Manitoba, and as a casual EA substitute in the Moose Jaw area (Prairie South School Division) since then, while in university.
I’ve always been passionate about impacting kids and want to continue doing that through the medium of education. I’ve chosen education because I recognize the correlation between the level of education a child receives and the choices they make. I love helping students reach their potential!
With that being said, there are a number of things I’m looking forward to learning more about during my Pre-internship. I’m very interested in learning more about classroom management. I’m also looking to gain a greater understanding of curriculum outcomes, and the various ways to utilize indicators so students can meet the outcomes.
