How Stories Shape Our Lives: What can I do when a student makes a racist or sexist remark

This article by Rita Tenorio is a follow-up to her previous article on deconstructing racism in the classroom. She talks about how simply saying that talk isn’t allowed in class will not be effective and neither will letting it slide because “curriculum is everything that happens at school”. She advocates for putting the issues on the table and having meaningful classroom discussions about them because students will be able to learn much more from them then.
