How Stories Shape Our Lives: Out Front

Annie Johnston delivers an article which discusses the how her school is creating an atmosphere where queer youth can be open and supported. This teacher along with others always comes out to their classes because they see it as important for queer youth and all youth to have solid gay role models. She says that hurtful language by the heterosexual students in power is one of the biggest obstacles to making homosexual youth feel like they are accepted. She also stresses the need for gay issues to become part of the curriculum so that students are not as uncomfortable with it.
